Some time ago, I wrote about the Audi TT vs. BMW Z4 battle, looking at it through the lens of buying a brand-new convertible.
I pointed out that the Audi TT can now only be bought from dealer stock — ready-made, pre-built cars waiting for their new owners.
And while my heart has always had a special place for the BMW Z3, it was the Z4 that still gave us hope — you could go to BMW’s website, choose the color, the wheels, the interior, the engine… and build your dream cabriolet from scratch.
Today, that story ends faster than anyone expected.
According to The Scottish Sun, BMW dealerships in the UK have stopped taking orders for the Z4, and global production will end in 2026.
It’s the end of one of the last true roadsters – rear-wheel drive, soft top, long hood, and that low seating position just inches above the asphalt.
Pure driving in its most beautiful form. (Even the toughest guys might shed a tear here.)

End of Orders in the UK
On BMW UK’s website, the Z4 has already disappeared from the configurator.
Dealers are accepting the last orders until the end of the year, and those who want one must hurry – this is the final chance to configure a Z4 your way.
Prices in the UK started at around £43,000.
It’s a symbolic moment, because the Z4 isn’t just another car.
It’s the spiritual successor to the BMW Z3, the 1990s icon that captured hearts — and the big screen — in GoldenEye alongside James Bond.
The Final Generation (G29) – Toyota Supra’s Brother
The current generation, code-named G29, debuted in 2018.
It was developed in partnership with Toyota, resulting in a close technical relationship with the Toyota Supra.
They share a platform and engines, but their personalities couldn’t be more different.
The Z4 was offered exclusively as a soft-top roadster, powered by engines ranging from 197 to 340 HP.
For purists, it was the last true “Z”.
The End of an Era
BMW’s decision didn’t come out of nowhere.
The Audi TT, Fiat 124 Spider, Mercedes SLC are already gone, and even the Mazda MX-5 RF faces an uncertain future.
Meanwhile, Porsche Boxster and Cayman are preparing for full electrification… though rumors vary.
What was once a dream of freedom on four wheels is now falling victim to emission standards and shifting customer priorities.
It’s getting harder and harder to find a new car that lets you feel the wind in your hair — unfiltered, unplugged, and unapologetic.
